A fun and easy tutorial that walks you through how to create beautiful rainbow marbled cookies.
I originally shared this as a recipe on the old website, and the cookies were a malt vanilla recipe. That recipe is back in development, and until its ready for its 2nd debut, I figured why not share in the meantime how I made them. It is a simple process that requires your favorite sugar cookie recipe, food coloring and perhaps some food safe gloves to keep your hands from staining. They are fun to make and fun to share with family and friends too! I even added in a surprise in some with a golden Oreo - but you can add any addition you'd like, just make sure to check your recipes instructions for add ons or added bake time.

Be Prepared. Have your cookie dough ready, along with the supplies you will need. This will help you flow through the process must faster and with less stress.

Bake Them Low And Slow. This is a tough baking tip only because I'm not sharing my recipe yet...which means that you would need to alter the recipe you are using. You don't have to but a helpful tip for achieving vibrant colors in cookies is to make them at a lower bake setting. I recommend at least 350 F and watching for light browning along the edges.
How To Create Rainbow Marbled Cookies
This is the DIY process for creating your own unique version of rainbow marbled cookies. Before proceeding you should have your cookie dough and supplies ready.
Step 1: Separate equal parts of the dough into different bowls, or onto a large platter. Separate as many parts of dough as you will be coloring the dough. Ie: if using all 6 colors of the rainbow, separate 6 equal dough parts.
Step 2: Add 2 to 3 drops of one food coloring into the first dough ball and use your hands to mix in well. I recommend using food safe gloves to keep hands from staining.
Step 3: Roll colored dough piece length wise and inside a large bowl. Repeat above steps with each color and lay each colored piece against one another until done.
Step 4: Use a 3 tbsp ice cream scoop and begin to lightly scoop the dough from one end to the other. You only want to lightly brush the surface so you are able to pull in all the colors. Place on baking sheet at least 2" apart.
Step 5: Repeat until no more dough remains. If you do have some remaining dough as you clean off excess, place in a separate bowl for afterwards.
Step 6: For the remaining excess dough, combine in bowl with only a few folds and gently so not to blend the colors together too much.
Step 7: Scoop dough with 3 tbsp ice cream scoop and place on baking sheet at least 2" apart.
Step 8: I recommend baking the cookies to the recipe you chose. A lower bake temperature (350 F) is ideal to ensure the colors do not darken much.
Variations
With a basic vanilla sugar cookies you generally have the freedom to create some variations or add ins. Here are just a few suggestions you can consider.
Golden Oreos. A delicious cookie to stuff inside your cookie. I recommend using a 2 tbsp ice cream scoop for the bottom cookie layer, add in the golden Oreo, and then another 1 tbsp of cookie dough on top. You can roll between your hands to help mesh the dough together before baking.
Roll In Sugar. Roll the cookie in granulated sugar before baking to get a beautiful sparkle that can help that rainbow look magical.
White Chocolate Dip. When done baking and cooling, you can choose to dip in white chocolate to help add some extra deliciousness. Ghirardelli white candy melts are good options and easy to color with food coloring if you choose.
